Net2 Plus – Single Door Control Unit

Net2 plus is a single door access control unit and is the most advanced control unit in the Paxton range. Employing the latest technology, it offers huge potential for future expansion and as security technology develops, Net2 plus can take full advantage. Unlike many systems of its type, Net2 plus is truly future-proof. Using Net2 plus ensures that access control is sound investment no matter how the system requirements change.

Net2 plus has on-board TCP/IP to allow direct connection to a computer network. This can save time, money and result in a better, more resilient system. Net2 plus control units can also be connected together using a dedicated RS485 network. This reduces the number of TCP/IP network points required for larger systems.

As with all Net2 control units, Net2 plus is designed to work seamlessly in the event of communications failure. It will continue to permit or deny access to users as appropriate. Once communications are re-established the activity is reported back to the PC.

Other hardware features:

  • Volt free control relay
  • Input for PSU fail
  • Input for tamper
  • Integrated termination resistors
  • Dedicated intruder alarm

Net2 is a networked access control system. A networked system gives the advantages of central control, event reporting and flexible control over users’ access. Each control unit is part of a network but can run independently making its own decisions and remembering events.

The Net2 plus control unit connects to the central administration PC using an RJ45 plug into a standard TCP/IP Ethernet network. This greatly increases the flexibility of installation options on sites that have LAN/WAN networks. The Net2 plus control unit also has a RS485 connection. This means it can be connected to other Net2 plus or Net2 classic control units using a dedicated CAT5 cable.

One Net2 plus control unit can be the network interface to the LAN and also run a wired RS485 daisy chain of other Net2 plus or Net2 classic units, removing the need for an independent TCP/IP to RS485 converter. Net2 plus is also available with a Power over Ethernet (PoE) power supply. PoE is a technology that allows both power and data to be passed along Ethernet cabling. Net2 plus with PoE simply plugs straight into the existing LAN using a standard RJ45 plug (providing it is powered by either a compatible PoE switch or a PoE injector).

Control units are sold as a PCB only, within a plastic housing or mounted within a 2A boxed metal/plastic mains monitored backup power supply. The Net2 plus unit now comes with PoE+ power supply in metal/plastic cabinet; no separate mains supply back-up required.

Installation

There is a label on the Net2 plus control unit that clearly shows colour coded connections for reader, power supply etc. The unit has a voltage free relay and so can switch any lock or electrical device. Exit buttons, door contacts, tamper switches and alarm devices may be connected.

Control units communicate to the PC via the standard TCP/IP protocol of a LAN. The Net2 plus control unit should be given a fixed/static IP address. All configuration of the unit is done using the Net2 Configuration Utility.

There are diagnostic LEDs mounted close to their relevant terminals to assist with trouble free installation. End of line resistors can be switched into the circuit as required. External terminating resistors are not required.

Operation

Any changes made at the PC are immediately communicated and stored at the control unit. When a user presents their token to the reader, the control unit identifies them and permits or denies access as appropriate.
